Today is Palm Sunday, marks the start of the Holy week. Everyone has different activities for this week especially starting on Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday because its holiday. Some would take this chance to have a vacation with the family. Vacation can mean go out for an outing or just going to their provinces and still do the religious activities for those days. Some would just stay at home but can still bond with their families in their own ways.
But for Catholics, this week is holy and it is the chance to reflect about the suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord. There are a lot of retreats and recollections on different parishes during Holy Monday to Holy Wednesday. There are also schedules of confessions during these days. I and my son already had our confession earlier today.
On Holy Thursday, there will be Chrism mass in the morning, which will be attended by the priests. This Mass manifests the unity of the priests with their bishop. At late in the afternoon or early evening, there will be Mass of the Lord’s Supper with Washing of the Feet of the Twelve Apostles in the parishes. This mass will not be end with the final blessing but instead it will end with the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Some Catholics will also do Visita Iglesia on this night, visiting different Churches to visit the Blessed Sacrament and to do Stations of the Cross. I can remember when I was still a kid, we will visit 14 different parishes in one night. If only cameras were common that time, I would have lots of pictures of the Churches here in manila.
Ever wonder why it is called Good Friday? It because God loves us so much that he gave his only Son to save us. There will be Seven Last words and reflections at 12 noon. We just usually watch this on the television but there are also reflections at the Parish, one can also go there. There will be celebration of the Lord’s Passion in the afternoon. There will be Eucharist of the Word and also distribution of the Holy Communion and Veneration of the Cross followed by procession of Santo Entierro and Mater Dolorosa. One will see a lot of life size images of Jesus, Mary and other Holy figures of the Church. They are so beautiful.
Black Saturday is the preparation for the Easter Vigil to be celebrated in the evening. The celebration will start outside the Church as Paschal Candle is blessed and lit on the celebration. Renewal of baptismal vows is done by the whole congregation and would be sprinkled with the baptismal water.
Easter Sunday will be a celebration, The risen Christ and Mama Mary will meet, which is called “salubong.” It happens early in the morning, and sometimes I would miss this when I was a kid, since I will have difficult time waking up because of the activities on Black Saturday night. though at some Parishes, Salubong is done after the Easter vigil on Black Saturday.
If you want something different on Easter Sunday, you can attend the Grand Easter Feast at SM Moa Arena. There will be mass, celebrated by Bishop Jesse Mercado. There will be Inspirational talk by Father Erick Santos and life changing talk by Bro. Bo Sanchez. There will also be a powerful worship. Moa Arena will rock with worship and prayers, it will be a life changing event. This is for free to all those who want to be blessed.
This was our breakfast last Sunday. It was the last Sunday of the month, and it’s the last Sunday that our small family is complete as my husband’s rest day is changing every month. So I decided to cook special fried rice with sunny side up egg and fried tokwa.
My fried rice is fairly simple, I just called is special since it was made for my family. Hehehe. What I used for this is a leftover adobo sauce from the chicken adobo that my husband cooked(it taste better than my adobo). I sautéed garlic and onion on melted butter. I added hotdogs which was sliced into small pieces. After few minutes, I added diced carrots and added the sauce. I added sliced baguio beans. After few minutes I added the left over rice. After few mixes and minutes, it’s ready to serve!
My husband and son liked it! And of course we were so full after our breakfast. I hope I can do it again this Sunday, but we have to leave early as we need to fetch my son at my Mother-in-law’s place and my husband still needs to go to work. I’ll just cook next time.
Happy Weekend everyone!
My youngest brother, RJ, graduated from High School last Wednesday. He has lots of rough times, he may not be that focused, his journey wasn’t that easy but thanks to God he was able to finish his High School. He may be pasaway sometimes but we still love him. That’s why the family is almost complete to celebrate his graduation. The one missing here is our eldest brother and my husband.
After graduation, we dined at Tramway Shaw, my husband just followed us there. Oh, by the way, the one beside me is my son, not my brother. hehehe. On the seventh of April, my brother, Christian (the one in blue polo shirt) will graduate from College! Another celebration, hopefully that time we are really complete!
My husband will out for a Sunday basketball game so it’s just me and my son. So, I decided that it would be nice to have a Sunday exercise with my son since we don’t do it often. When I told my son about it the day before, he was so excited. He slept at my mom’s place but he was knocking at our door early because he is excited for our biking session. So, here we are, biking together at a subdivision nearby.
My son wants to be a little playful when I took his picture, so, this is his look up pose and asked me to post his “look up” post at facebook.
Looks like I really need a lot of Sunday exercise so I can lose weight. hehehe
Do you exercise often? What’s your usual Sunday activity?
I am working at the HR department of one of the bus company in the Philippines. I have been in different industry as well like food and manpower agency, also in the HR department. I am enjoying my work no matter how tiring it is and no matter if there are a lot of paper works and a lot of paper to file. Why I love this job? because I like dealing with different kind of people. I have been into customer service since I was 17 because I started working in a fast food restaurant at the age of 17. I treat our employees my “customer” so I still need to treat them well. They may call me “mam” because of the position but I try as much as possible to attend to their needs. Of course, I am not perfect so there are times that I am “mataray” to them.
I have interacted with different kind of people, some people who knows how to be happy and what makes them happy but there are also some who always find something to complain about. I have attended a lot of seminars, orientation, teachings, trainings and other things so I came to realize that happiness is not just a choice, it’s also a state of mind. I am a positive person so I always try to look at the positive side of each situation that I encounter. The environment also is not a factor when it comes to happiness. Have you ever wonder why there are “poor” people who are very happy and yet there are “rich” people who are not happy? So, it’s not in the environment, I realized that it really depends on the outlook of the person. Or maybe its in the attitude.
That’s what I learned today, It’s really in the attitude.. because I received an email today, coming from Attitudinalist Training Center and I think its work sharing.
What do you think?
