Considering Home schooling

About one or two years ago, I already made a several research about home schooling because one of my co-workers was interested in home schooling his child. I got interested too because I really wanted to focus on my son to raise him to be a better person. But eventually, I wasn’t able to continue my research about it. Until last week, my mom suggested on home schooling my son, so I have searched the internet again.

Home schooling according to wikipedia is educating your children at home, which is done by the parent itself or sometimes a tutor or maybe another mother who is focused on home schooling. It is an alternative way of teaching the kids rather than sending them to public or private schools. One of the sites that I landed to was the Catholic Filipino Academy, which is co-founded by Bo Sanchez. He listed ten core principles of home schooling:
• Follow Your Child’s Passions
• Follow Your Child’s Learning Style
• Follow your Child’s Learning Pace Per Subject
• Never Use Fear & Punishments As Motivation
• Remove Tests And Grades As Tools For Teaching (Shocked? You Bet.)
• Nurture A Great Love For Reading
• Make Ordinary Life Events As Your Classroom
• Make Work And Service Essential To Your Child’s Education
• Build Your Family Relationship (The Greatest Reward!)
• Personally Share Your Faith and Values With Your Child
Saving on the cost of sending the kids to school is a secondary reason only, others even think that home schooling is a bit more expensive as they have to buy school equipment. But as I read through articles, the primary reason of home schooling is protecting the child from the bad and evil forces around. Yes, even at school there are bad forces like bullying and violence, and other not so good things. And of course, educating the child while focusing on God as the center of our lives.

Missing My Girl Friends

I have downloaded an E-book reader for my Samsung galaxy y last week and the first book that I read was the Nora Roberts’ The Bride Quartet series. This is a story about four friends set in the hectic world of wedding planning. I really like their friendship, their strong bonds and how they help each other in times of problems. And because of this, I am missing my girl friends especially when the four friends would have their girls’ night and they would just sit in anoutdoor chaise lounge chairs to talk about the things that are happening to their lives outside their business especially love lives.

My best girl friends

I remember the times when I and my girl friends would just go to one of our houses and there we would have foods to eat, maybe few drinks and we would just talk about our lives. But now, each of us has our own families now, we live in different areas and we seldom meet. We sent text messages from time to time or even call each other, but I just miss the time that we can go out and have fun and talk about anything under the sun. The last time we went out was almost two years ago so I am hoping that anytime soon we would be able to fix our schedule and just have a date with each other.

27, 239 steps to Antipolo Church

It’s part of my husband’s family tradition to walk from Baesa, their hometown, to Antipolo Church every Maundy Thursday. Some of the family would prepare the food that would be given for those who are walking. There’s a certain place near junction wherein the walkers would stop, take a quick rest and eat the dinner being provided. It’s not my first time to join this tradition, I have tried walking when I was younger together with my friends but we came from Makati and from a fast food duty, so that time we decided to have a ride going to Megamall and just started walking from that point.

This year, I and my husband decided to walk from Baesa to Antipolo and since we live in Cainta, we have to travel first to Baesa on Thursday morning and start the walk in the afternoon. My husband was able to borrow a pedometer, a device that counts the steps of a person, we were able to record how many steps we had. It took us 27, 239 steps to Antipolo and has spent almost six hours of walking. We passed by different streets, seen different buildings, houses with gardens but didn’t see compost tumbler. We had around 12,000 steps already when we had our break near Junction, and from Junction to Antipolo, our son tagged along. With our son, we have another 15,000 steps more or less to Antipolo Church. Along the way, it was tiring, sweats are dropping, my son keeps on asking if the Church is near already but when we reached the Church all the complaint and exhaustion was gone.

Red Hot Summer Giveaway

This post and giveaway should have been posted at My Red Hot Reviews but since there’s a work in progress at the site, I decided to post it here. Summer is really here, though it is raining sometimes but you can already feel the heat of the sun. Too much heat from the sun can damage our skin but don’t forget that it can damage our eyes also. We can apply sunblock with high SPF on our skin and face but we can’t apply it on our eyes. So the best thing to protect our eyes aside from carrying umbrella when you go out is to wear a good pair of sunglasses. Nowadays, you don’t have to go around looking for a nice pair of sunglasses, online stores like Firmoo Online Optical Store is already around to make your shopping easier. You can browse the website and just chose among the stylish and fashionable sunglasses. Firmoo’s prices are very competitive and it doesn’t compromise the quality of their glasses. I myself was able to get glasses from them, they look great and it is of good quality.

Now, for the good news, Firmoo Online Optical Store is giving away 20 SUNGLASSES to lucky readers and followers, with free shipping. You can check out their website at www.firmoo.com and choose the sunglass that you like.
